Look of the Day

This is my first try with liquid eyeliner. I read a few tutorials and thought I'd give 'er a shot. I don't think I did a half bad idea. I love make up, but I usually don't do a full face of make up. It's generally a sparkly nude palette eye shadow, blush, and a gloss or plain look. I stay at home with the spawn so wearing too much make up while elbow deep in diapers and dishes is a tad on the excessive side for me. This is definitely a look I'll pull out for a Christmas party or other celebration. My next goal is to attempt a more neutral day look for liquid eyeliner.

To start the look I primed my eye and added concealer. Next I brushed on a light eye shadow from a Physician's Formula shimmer strip palette for Hazel eyes (even though mine are green..I break the rules :P). Next I started with a thin line under my top lashes to fill in gaps, and proceeded to use small brush strokes to create a thin straight line. After that dried I went over that same line a second time to darken it up. I added a line on top of that line to thicken it up, extended my flare (with eyes open, not pulling on the lid! That will distort your line and make it uneven) and filled in the triangle.

The liquid eyeliner I used is a black australis liquid eyeliner I received in a beauty swap last year. I used my Essence XXXL mascara. The red lipstick is Milani Red Label.

Better photos to come soon! (:

Beauty Routines and the Other Side

When I get ready in the mornings my bathroom counter is a disaster. Make up, brushes, wash cloths, toilet paper smudged in eyeliner, cleansers, moisturizers – it looks like I had my way with Sephora. Have you ever wondered what your husband or significant other thought about the products you use? There are quite a few times in my life I've received a "what the heck are you doing to yourself?" look. Especially high school..during my beauty experimenting phases (burn all the photos!!). Funnily enough, my husband does know because his mother is amazing with hair and nails. Few things are a mystery to him – so this weekend I’ll be asking my 10 year old son what he thinks the following products are and their uses. I want you all to do the same! It could be interesting to see what your significant other thinks about your beauty routine and why you do the things you do!

Tape a video, take photos, type your responses, whichever method you choose. Show your significant  other the ten following beauty items and record their responses! I’m certain we’ll all be in for a good laugh and maybe a surprise or two. I’ll post the best responses on the blog this Saturday!

These are products I use often or have at some point that go beyond your generic foundation and blush. Here’s what I think I you should pull out and show your S/O if you have it. If not, just show them these photos and see what they think! I'll post a list of what they are the end of the article.

Glitter Bomb

This glitter bomb is so ridiculous, my camera didn't want to register that it exists. I used OPI I lily love you, Sinful Colors Hottie, NOPI Rainbow in the S-kylie and this pink sinful colors that looks like Hottie, but is pink and I don't have the name for.

I. Love. It. My camera does it no justice, in person it is so sparkly and amazing. It color shifts from blue to purple to orange depending on the light. It's very galactic looking.

More Zoya Lovely Nail Art - IKAT nails

This is my first attempt at Ikat nails. I love them every time I see them so I thought I'd try my hand at it. Clearly practice makes perfect with these so I'm anxious to try again and perfect my lines next time.

I used Zoya Jacqueline and Zoya Neely. I love that color combination! I think my favorite part is the accent nail - Neely on Jacqueline looks much better than Jacqueline on Neely.

..AND I have zoya rainbow toes! My love for Zuza will never die!

Zoya Lovely Nail Art

Here's some nail art I did yesterday with two of the Zoya Spring Lovely colors, Julie and Jacqueline. Later today I'm going to try my first attempt at IKAT nails...eek.

Essence Cosmetics

Today I have three Essence products to show you. Essence is a fairly new to me brand. They're very affordable, though availability varies by region. So far I'm very

Essence multi action mascara in blackest black
XXXL shine lipgloss in love story
Colour & Go nail polish in 108 ultimate pink

Essence multi action mascara in blackest black is a great, reliable mascara. The wand distributes the mascara evenly so I have zero clumping and my favorite part? My lashes are still soft! A lot of mascara leaves my lashes very hard and dry, but this mascara keeps them in their.."original lash form" so to speak. It's a great, reliable little mascara I'll always keep in my bag.

Colour & Go nail polish in 108 ultimate pink is truly the ultimate pink! It's so girly and happy and bright. It reminds me of hot summer days, sno cones and water fights. I love it! Application was smooth. You can get away with one coat of this polish with zero VNL, but I did two to make the color pop a bit more. The colour & go polishes also have a new bottle shape which is amazing and I prefer it to the old bottle shape. You can see two older Essences I reviewed here.

XXXL lip gloss in Love Story is a gorgeous pink-mauve gloss, it has a bit of a subtle retro feel to it for me.  These glosses have a great non-stick formula. I'm pretty weary of lip glosses because most of the ones I own are very sticky and my hair sticks in my mouth, it's gross. These are wonderful, though. No stick, and I get a good 2 hours of wear before I have to reapply. No flakes, either.

Final verdict?
Essence is a brand that has yet to disappoint me. I own three glosses, two mascaras, and a few nail polishes by them and the quality is consistently impeccable. You can buy Essence at your local ulta, ulta.com, Fred Meyer, or H-E-B if you're in the US.

These products were sent for honest review. My honest review? I'm pregnant and they make me feel pretty, darnit.

Jewelry

This was my grandma's gold chain necklace. She loved to layer jewelry and especially chains. When she passed away I was able to go through her many (I'm talking 20+)  jewelry boxes and take a few of my favorites. Below is a jade flower bracelet and tiny yellow polka dot hoops. Grandma had great taste. She accessorized everything.

Do you own any sentimental jewelry that you like to wear? I'd love to see it!

Jessica Birds of Paradise

My husband bought me quite a bit of nail polish for Christmas. Jessica Birds of Paradise, Champagne Bubbles (which is OMG I cannot wait to show you), and Strawberry Shake It. Illamasqua Raindrops (EEEEEEEE!!!) and some nail art brushes!

Here is Birds of Paradise. Application was smooth, even, and very shiny without a top coat. Birds of Paradise is a deep blue based (but still very purple) with violet tendencies. It's amazingly bright but in the most subtle way possible. It's absolutely gorgeous. It reminds me a lot of Zoya Hope and NYC Prince Street.

Zoya Spring 2013 Lovely Collection

Zoya Spring 2013 Lovely collection - "beauty is a lovely state of mind"
Zoya Blu
Zoya Blu is a baby , blue creme. I love baby blue cremes. Application was smooth - this is three coats.

Zoya GeiGei

An amazing princessy glitter pink! This is two coats. This makes me want to put on a giant cone hat with streamers and a big ball grown.

Zoya Jacqueline

A nude, light buttercream. When I looked at this shade in the bottle I didn't think it would look great on me, but I fell in love. It's a perfect spring nude. Great for a for a wedding, I think! This is two coats, application of course, was a dream.

Zoya Julie

This is glitter lavender, very princess like. I'd love to paint my daughter's walls with this color. This is two coats.

Zoya Neely

A beautiful mint green creme. I love a good mint green creme and this hits the spot better than anyone I've tried before. This is two coats. Application is smooth like all Zoya's are.

Zoya Pilaf

A golden yellow glitter. This is two coats. Application is wonderful but I'm not a fan of the color on myself. My husband said it looks like I smoke a lot, lol yikes.

Zoya always impresses and never disappoints. These are six gorgeous shades for spring! They remind me of dessert mints! You can purchase zoya nail polish here. They retail for 8.00 a bottle. If you're interested in any of these I highly recommend participating in the Zoya 3 Free promo that starts Monday, Jan. 7th. I posted about it here.

*Side note, I hope my camera gets back up and running soon. :(
